It’s hard to know where to start with Vampire Survivors. This is a survival roguelite that pits you against hordes of undead enemies that overwhelm the screen, but it’s not some extreme skill test. Your hero deploys weapons automatically making your main job following the trail of dead to pick up gems to unlock more upgrades so you can survive up to 30 minutes. This basic cycle repeats itself, but along the way everything gets increasingly weirder and more compelling.

Why you should play it

The foundation of Vampire Survivors is a fantastic distillation of a power fantasy. Fully upgrading your character so they can run through hundreds of enemies unscathed is truly satisfying. This game doesn’t stop there though, and has quite a few strange secrets buried within it that make playing and replaying it feel completely worth it.

Why you might not play it

Vampire Survivors has a photosensitivity warning at the beginning of the game for good reason. Things can get very chaotic with effects popping off on screen and enemies flashing as they take damage constantly. This is also a game that demands up to 30 minutes per session, though the game does a very good job of making that time fly by.
