Play Void Tyrant

Void Tyrant

Released: June 26
Free/$4.99

Free-to-play is generally a dirty word that conjures predatory monetization. Void Tyrant—though free—is not that. It’s a sci-fi roguelite deck-builder that you can play in full without paying, but a single purchase removes ads and tweaks the gameplay into its ideal shape.

Why you should play it

Card-based roguelites are all over the App Store, but they feel like they’re all cribbing from the same sources. This is not the case with Void Tyrant, which has a unique, two deck combat system that combines Blackjack and loot lust. This is all folded into an incredibly well-thought-out campaign structure that rewards you with more depth and variety the more you play it.

Why you might not play it

You reap what you sow with Void Tyrant. It won’t show you all of its tricks on your first run, or even your tenth. You have to work for it. As you go deeper into the endgame, the game peels back more layers to make subsequent runs richer and more complicated. This can be frustrating as the game itself is pretty unforgiving, especially to those that are impatient. If you can stick with it though, you’re in for a treat.
